When I stumbled upon this little gem I just couldn't leave it on the shelf. It is a vintage story book from 1973, called 365 Animal Stories. The book is in fabulous condition and I immediately fell in love with the illustrations.
There is an animal story or poem for every day of the year and the stories are accompanied by gorgeous illustrations. The stories and illustrations subtly change as you move through the year and through the changing seasons.
Each month has a illustrated banner, again depicting the season and weather typically experienced in that month. Here are just a few:
The book has a collection of illustrators, which includes Porter G. Hilda Often, Pradera, Esme Eve, Alan Jesset and Richard Hooke. Here are just a few examples:
This would have to be one of my favourite illustrations from the Bertie Badger story from Feb 11. It is Bertie and his wife Bessie, with their proudest possession, their motorcycle. Their hats are adorable!
I have to admit that I have spent so much time flicking through this fabulous book. I just can't get enough of the illustrations, not to mention the sweet stories!
